British Safety Council Level 2 Award in COSHH Risk Assessment

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (as amended) requires employers to control exposure to hazardous substances to prevent ill-health. The British Safety Council Level 2 Award in COSHH Risk Assessment is a health and safety training course which aims to provide supervisors and employees with knowledge and understanding of the COSHH risk assessment process and the skills required to undertake a suitable and sufficient risk assessment.

The specification of this COSHH training course is based on the Health and Safety Executive's guidance to the regulations and has been accredited by the Qualifications Regulators at Level 2 in the Qualifications and Credit Framework. Assessment is fit for purpose.

This British Safety Council accredited course will allow delegates to:

  • Outline the reasons for conducting COSHH risk assessments
  • Outline the main legislation relating to COSHH risk assessments
  • Describe different forms of hazardous substances
  • Classify different hazardous substance
  • Describe the ways in which hazardous substances can enter the body and the harm they can cause
  • Describe the factors to consider when assessing the risks from exposure to hazardous substances
  • Describe the hierarchy of controls in relation to the control of hazardous substances
  • Describe the stages of a COSHH risk assessment and outline the circumstances in which a COSHH risk assessment should be reviewed

  • Who Should Attend The British Safety Council Level 2 Award in COSHH Risk Assessment Course?

    This course will benefit anyone involved in undertaking or reviewing COSHH risk assessments. There are no formal entry requirements for the BSC Level 2 Award in COSHH Risk Assessment. However, it is expected that candidates will have a level of literacy and numeracy adequate to cope with the assessment.

    Course Material

    Each delegate will be issued with a workbook to assist them both during and after the course, which will contain information, guidance and forms to assist them. The course is designed to be interactive, allowing delegates the opportunity to develop their skills with the support of the course tutor.

    Course Tutors

    Our trainers and health and safety consultants are qualified and experienced health and safety professionals with a broad experience of the health and safety industry to complement their training skills. All consultants hold professional membership of the chartered Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and a professional trainer's qualification such as the PTLLS certificate.


    The course will be delivered over one day.


    Candidates will be registered with the British Safety Council. After the course, they will receive a COSHH risk assessment task electronically which must be completed in their own workplace. Candidates submit their completed COSHH risk assessment task electronically to the British Safety Council from where it is forwarded to an external examiner for marking. Results and certificates are issued within ten working days.

    Upon successful completion of the risk assessment task delegates will be awarded a British Safety Council Level 2 Award in COSHH Risk Assessment.
