NEBOSH Fire Certificate

The NEBOSH Fire Certificate, or NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management Certificate to give it its full title, is aimed primarily at managers and supervisors who are responsible for fire safety within their organisation and compliance with applicable fire safety legislation.

The NEBOSH Fire Certificate course aims to give delegates the knowledge to conduct and review fire risk assessments, along with fire prevention and protective measures within most workplaces.

The NEBOSH Fire Certificate qualification meets the academic requirements to apply for Technician membership (Tech IOSH) of IOSH (the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health), and Associate membership (AIIRSM) of IIRSM (the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management).

Obtaining the NEBOSH Fire Certificate will allow you to:

Develop a knowledge of fire safety legislation and its impact on your workplace, including the legal framework relating to fire-specific health and safety

Advise on the means of fire protection and prevention of fire spread within buildings

Advise on the development and maintenance of a fire evacuation procedure

Outline the principles behind ignition and spread of fire and explosion in work premises

Appreciate the purpose and procedures of investigating fires in the workplace

Use a simple fire risk assessment technique to determine fire risk levels and assess the adequacy of controls

Develop a basis for a future career in fire and occupational safety

Course Options

At ATC Risk Management, we offer the NEBOSH Fire Certificate in two ways: the full course and a conversion course. The full NEBOSH Fire Certificate course contains the mandatory NGC1 unit, which is the same unit that is taught in the NEBOSH General Certificate syllabus. This means that if you have already taken and passed the NEBOSH General Certificate in the last five years, you don't need to repeat this NGC1 unit. Candidates in this position can take the NEBOSH Fire Certificate conversion course which does not repeat this unit and so is both shorter in duration and less expensive than the full course.

The certificate achieved at the end of both courses is the same, i.e. the official NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management Certificate; it just means that thanks to the modular make-up of the qualifications those who have already achieved the NGC1 unit do not have to do it all again!

Assessment

This accredited NEBOSH qualification is assessed by one exam which lasts 2 hours, and a workplace-based practical fire risk assessment project. The exam is conducted in our training centres at the end of your course, and the project is completed in your own workplace. The project should take no longer than 3 hours to complete and you will have 7 days from the end of the course to return it to us by post. If you are currently unemployed, we can usually arrange somewhere for you to conduct a workplace assessment. If this is something you require, please contact us before booking.

If you are taking the full NEBOSH Fire Certificate course, you will also have an exam at the end of the NGC1 unit.

Certification

Those who successfully complete the course and pass the assessments are awarded the official NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management Certificate. Certificates are forwarded directly to the candidate by NEBOSH approximately 16 weeks after the completion of the course although results are usually issued within 10 weeks.

Full Course
The full course includes the mandatory NGC1 unit and exam (the first week of the NEBOSH General Certificate). Because it does not matter about the order that the units are completed in, some of the course dates below may have the NGC1 unit in the first week, whereas others have it in week 2.

Conversion Course
Those who have taken and passed the NEBOSH General Certificate and have achieved the NGC1 unit within the last 5 years are exempt from having to do this mandatory unit again, and so can do the 1-week conversion course which does not include the NGC1 unit.
