Management, Health and Safety & The Environment
The management of an organisation are the ones who influence the successful adoption of safe working practices and adherence to environmental legislation by the employees within the company. Ideally they will have already acquired health and safety qualifications such as the NEBOSH Environmental Certificate or an IOSH Managing Safely Certificate, as this will have given them the knowledge and make them aware of their responsibilities with regards to health and safety and the environment.
As far as the environment is concerned, just as with the compliance with health and safety rules, the attitude of management will be the single most significant cause of whether employees follow the rules or not. Managers who care more about output and profit levels than protecting the environment or complying with environmental legislation will either indirectly by implication or openly encourage employees to circumvent rules, regulations and legislation in order to get the job done as quickly as possible. On the other hand if managers are dedicated to promoting a health and safety culture and complying with environmental restrictions, they will actively encourage employees to do the same and will have performed risk assessments and put into place control systems in order to prevent any potential breaches or accidents which can not only endanger lives and the health and wellbeing of people, but also have a damaging effect upon the local environment.
It is imperative that managers place just as much emphasis upon safeguarding the environment and their responsibilities for the health and safety of their workforce as they do on other considerations such as productivity and profit levels. Only then will health, safety, wellbeing and the environmental protection be seen as important and taken seriously by the workforce within an organisation.
Need an Accredited Course?
Along with designing bespoke health and safety training programmes, we also run the accredited NEBOSH, IOSH and ConstructionSkills (CSkills) health and safety courses as open courses at selected venues across the UK, as well as in-house for those companies who have a number of employees requiring the training, as it will be much more cost effective than sending them all onto a scheduled open course.
For more information please call 0115 984 9940 to discuss the options or send us an online contact form. Alternatively, use the "Courses" menu at the top of the page to view the courses and qualifications for the various awarding bodies.
These courses form the basis for our in-house training programmes. They can either be run as they are if the outline is exactly what you want, or can be be modified to suit the individual requirements of your organisation. Two or more can also be combined to tailor a bespoke training session for you.
