Simon Cain - Southern Regional Manager (Trainer, Consultant)

CMIOSH, MIIRSM, AinstIIB MBICS

 

Simon has been active in health, safety, welfare and the environment since 1992 and is a Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) and a Member of the International Institute for Risk and Safety Management (MIIRSM). As an experienced health and safety consultant and practitioner, Simon's career has been diverse and wide ranging, encompassing roles from the shop floor to board room level director, in many differing industries, including the office, warehouse, factory, construction, corporate event and contracting sectors.

As a senior director for the largest commercial flooring contractor in the UK, Simon was responsible for the health and safety and environmental issues for over 180 contractors and staff operating from 7 regional offices throughout the UK and Europe. For four years running they achieved the British Safety Council's top safety business award.

Health and safety career highlights include a 200-plus site programme over an 18 month period for Romec and the Post Office, which was successfully delivered with no injuries or loss. Simon's corporate client list is equally impressive, working alongside the likes of Harrods and Selfridges, British Aerospace, Citibank, B.P. Jones Laing and the Interiors Group.

Simon also has a great deal of experience in providing health and safety training to the facility management and cleaning sectors, working at NVQ level 3 with, amongst others, Johnson Controls and ISS. As an Accredited Associate for the Institute for Independent Business, Simon also has experience of working in the SME (Small Medium Enterprise) sector helping independent businesses from start up through to helping them achieve the CHAS and Britannia Safe Contractors Scheme awards.

Simon's health and safety consultancy experience includes writing a bespoke health and safety policy, carrying out formal in depth audits, through to management reports, safety tours, risk assessment, safe systems of work and the like. In addition to Simon's health and safety experience, he is an experienced director, manager and communicator, being an accredited Pack Types© psychometric practitioner, a measurment of emotional intelligence, vital when bringing the team together and successfully communicate the safety message.

Since joining ATC Risk Management, Simon has been involved in designing and delivering training including accredited health and safety training courses from NEBOSH, IOSH and CSkills (formally the CITB).

Simon's many health and safety qualifications include City & Guilds NVQ 5, the NEBOSH Construction Certificate, the NEBOSH Fire Certificate, the NEBOSH Environmental Certificate, the City and Guilds 7303, (now 6302) PTTLS teaching certificate and the British Safety Council Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, as well as the Site Management Safety Training Scheme SMSTS and STCW95 certificates.

Having recently completed an Integrated Environmental Management Certificate at Bath University, Simon is now an Associate of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (AIEMA). Simon already has experience of conducting CBA (Cost Benefit Analysis), EIA (Environmental Impact Assessments), CT (Cleaner Technology) and ERM (Environmental Risk Management).

Building on his training experience, and as part of ATC's policy of continuous CPD (Continuous Professional Development), Simon is currently engaged on his TAQA qualifications, (Assessing Vocational Achievement) and (Quality Assurance of Assessment Process and Practice). Simon is an affiliate of the IFL (Institute for Learning).

Additional health and safety related qualifications include Emergency First Response FAW, First Aid Instructor (FAW and EFAW), as well as being an MCA qualified fire fighter.
